10 Tips on How to Save Fuel and Maximize Savings
Petrol is found in abundance in the UAE. It serves a variety of purposes from electrifying to running the cars, and so on. But just because there is an abundance of the fuel, doesn’t mean the money to buy it is in abundance too. Using a car to commute can be a costly affair, and if you have additional payments to make, it’ll jeopardize the situation for you, since juggling bills can get taxing. UAE follows the fluctuating pricing model for the fuel; But no matter highest or lowest price point if the driving is done in a manner that is unreasonably harmful for the car; it will lead to wastage of fuel and more money will be used to pay for the fuel.
Here are some ways you can save fuel and maximize your savings:
This can’t be emphasized enough. One of the most important ways to save fuel and care for the car is to make sure car maintenance is carried out at regular intervals. The engine is the powerhouse of the car, and hence, issues in it can cause the vehicle’s petrol consumption to rise by a margin. But this can be avoided, provided the engine is given the due maintenance.
A car requires different kinds of oils for the smooth working of the car. From brake oil to coolant, any oil present in the car is important and should be refilled after the time span of it being used. But for the smooth working, and to prevent engine wear tear; make sure you stock up on engine oil in regular intervals.

Tire pressure being too low is one of the common reasons for the decrease in fuel economy and hence, increased fuel bills. Also, low tire pressure is known to be a cause behind reduced engine performance; it additionally creates pressure on the engine which can further develop into issues. Plus, too high or too low pressure can cause the car to skid or slip; making the tire pressure an important component of the car that you need to know about. Make sure the tire pressure matches the one listed in the vehicle information booklet.
Driving Off-Road Unnecessarily
In UAE, off-roading is an added thrill, but if there is no reason to do so, don’t. Due to the non-solid surface, there needs to be more grip from the car’s tires. This leads to the tires generating more resistance as they try to keep up with the loose sand. Not only does this create pressure on the engine and the tires but it burns up fuel as more power is wasted due to the resistance and for the car to stay afloat. The heavier the car is, the more difficult it will be to move in the sand; which isn’t in the best interest of the vehicle’s fuel saving.
Decrease Additional Weight
People don’t realize that whatever they keep in the car has an effect on the motor vehicle performance. Leaving everything carelessly in the car piles on extra weight on the car, which can be avoided. Make sure to remove unnecessary items from the car if there is no need for it. However, medical kit, spare tire are not the sort of equipment that one should not keep in one’s car. Instead periodically clean the vehicle and remove things that are not relevant.
Driving at a higher speed requires more petrol than it does while a person drives at economical speeds. According to studies, driving at 100 km/h instead of 120 km/h can save up to 21 kilometers worth fuel on every 10 liters of petrol. This is because, at higher speeds, the load on the engine increases too.
Driving in an abrupt and rash manner may seem exciting, but the sudden load on the engine can be grueling. Driving rash causes more wear of the cars parts as well, such as the brake shoes and so on. It is better to drive steadily and provide constant acceleration instead of random spurts of acceleration.
Fuel Filling Time Interval
Instead of waiting for the car’s tank to reach the empty before refilling the fuel tank, fill it when the tank is between half and a third(33.33%-50%). The main reason behind this is to regulate the car’s fuel consumption.
A lot of people have the habit of keeping the car running even while the car is at a standstill. During the time engine is on while at a standstill, the car’s engine can burn enough fuel in a minute that could have driven the car for 1.5 km. This has been corrected in the Hybrid cars which automatically shut the fuel consumption during such stoppages. But this needs to be followed in every other car to maximize fuel economy and increase savings.
Planning the Journey
Not planning where you want to go or what you have to take with you can result in multiple trips going back and forth. It is better to understand and plan beforehand so there is no discrepancy and no ground needs to be covered again unnecessarily.
Use Public Transport
Another way of building up savings is to use public transport if it is a viable option for the commute. Taking cars for short distances should be avoided, rather a bicycle or a short walk can be a better option. It is important to understand where to drive and where not to and drive accordingly.
